2022
Founders’ Day
Celebration

Dennis Nixon

The Webb County Heritage Foundation is proud to announce the selection of Dennis E. Nixon as President of the Republic of the Rio Grande for 2022 for his commitment to safeguarding the historic birthplace of Laredo along the Rio Grande.

He will be inaugurated as President of the Republic of the Rio Grande during the Webb County Heritage Foundation’s annual Founders’ Day Celebration on Saturday, May 21 at 12 noon at the IBC Bank Annex Ballroom.

“The Founders’ Day Celebration has not been held for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Heritage Foundation Board President Michael Gonzalez. “So we are especially happy to announce its return this year on the 267th anniversary of Laredo’s founding. And we are coming back with a bang, in announcing Mr. Dennis Nixon as this year’s President of the Republic of the Rio Grande.”

As in past years, the Webb County Heritage Foundation will host a Founders’ Day luncheon honoring the descendants of founder, Don Tomás Sánchez and all the founding families of this historic community. The event is open to the public and all Laredoans, current and former, whether from original families or as newcomers, as well as all friends and neighbors are invited to attend.

In addition, the annual presentation of Heritage Awards will honor those individuals and organizations that have shown outstanding commitment to preserving our community’s history and heritage.

Tickets for the luncheon can be obtained by calling the Foundation office at (956) 727-0977 or by email at heritage@webbheritage.org. To reserve tables of 10, please stop by the WCHF office Mondays – Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available.

If you are unable to attend, please make a tax-deductible contribution for historic preservation.
