At a public meeting hosted by County Judge Tano Tijerina on Thursday, September 9th, many members of the community stepped forward to seek an alternative to demolition of the historic County Courthouse Annex. After hearing testimony from people from all walks of life who are committed to trying to save this important piece of community history, Judge Tijerina agreed to forward our petition to get a building assessment from a source other than the county’s insurance company. We are conscious of the safety and liability issues involved and believe this assessment will provide a viable path to stabilizing the building without demolition.

We are encouraged by this positive response from the County Judge who has placed the item on the County Commissioners’ Court agenda for Monday, September 14 at 9 a.m.

We are asking all members of the community who wish to support this effort to please attend this meeting and make your voices heard. Please forward this notice by social media and any other means and let’s keep up the effort to SAVE OUR HISTORY!

Update

Looks like supplies and equipment are being unloaded on site for the Webb County Courthouse Annex demolition. Word on the street says it might happen at 3 a.m. (Saturday). It’s a sad day for Laredo and for the memory of ancestors who built that beautiful landmark.
