Laredo’s Birthday Celebration Kick Off sponsored by Los Pasteles Bakery and H-E-B
Location: Border Heritage Museum (810 Zaragoza St.)
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Open to the Public

Kick off the celebration with a performance by Martin High School’s Tigres del Sur Mariachi, followed by a birthday cake cutting sponsored by Los Pasteles Bakery and H-E-B. Mucho Pop will also be offering free popsicles while supplies last.

Stick around for hands-on fun, art, and local history. Print a tote with Tu Casa Gráfica, learn about Fort McIntosh with Laredo College, and explore the Luciano Guajardo Historical Collection with the Laredo Public Library. Iribelula will also be creating watercolor portraits inside the museum.

The Imaginarium of South Texas will be on-site with their critters and family-friendly activities, while Sona and Leo create a live window painting on the museum’s carriage house. The Laredo Convention and Visitors Bureau will also be selling official Laredo merchandise.

Celebrate Laredo’s birthday in nature! Join MMAS for their final bird hike of the season and discover the birds and habitats that are part of our region’s natural history. The walk will be from The Outlet Shoppes to the Laredo Water Museum along the Rio Grande Vega Trail.
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Wear comfortable attire. BYO snacks and water.

Start the day with a "PLATICA ON LAS MINAS: 1800s to 1930s before a modern Mines Road" by Alex Martinez hosted by the Webb County Historical Commission.
A performance by the Laredo Philharmonic and mariachi will follow.

Daphne Art Foundation
A Distant Familiar Exhibit by Sandra 
S.K. Amoabeng

Through local soil, grass, and plants, A Distant Familiar creates an immersive experience rooted in scent, texture, color, and sound. Curated music from Ghana and Mexico, along with traditional Ghanaian sobolo, invite visitors into a space of reflection, memory, and connection.

Soil Painting Workshop by Artist Sandra S.K. Amoabeng

Daphne Art Foundation presents a soil paining workshop led by artist Sandra S.K. Amoabeng on Saturday, May 16. She designed this workshop as an invitation to the community "to celebrate our bond with Laredo by painting with its earth"- turning local soil into paint while experimenting with texture and mark making techniques.  No prior experience required. All materials provided. Open to all ages. Space is limited.
