Noche de Museos is the Webb County Heritage Foundation's after-hours museum program, created to make local history, culture, and museums more accessible to the community.
Typically held on the first Friday of the month from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Noche de Museos invites visitors to explore the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum, the Border Heritage Museum, and other participating locations outside of regular museum hours. Admission is free, and each evening offers an opportunity to experience our museums in a different way.
While many Noche de Museos evenings feature self-guided exploration of museum exhibits, the program also serves as a platform for special events and community partnerships. Past programs have included exhibit openings, documentary screenings, Movies on the Patio, karaoke nights, history presentations, family activities, and Noche de Museos: Junior Edition.
In addition to its regular First Friday schedule, Noche de Museos is occasionally offered on other dates to coincide with special exhibitions, community celebrations, film screenings, and unique programming opportunities.
Whether you are visiting a museum for the first time or rediscovering a familiar space, Noche de Museos offers a welcoming opportunity to connect with the stories, people, and places that shape our community.
Join us for an upcoming Noche de Museos and discover history after hours.
Noche de Museos: Junior Edition
Noche de Museos: Junior Edition is a family-focused version of our after-hours museum program, designed especially for children and their families. These special evenings invite parents, grandparents, and caregivers to explore local museums alongside young learners through hands-on activities, interactive challenges, and opportunities for discovery.
Junior Edition is home to the Museum Crew program, where children complete missions, earn rewards, and become official Museum Crew Members and Keepers of Stories. Participants can explore museums, uncover clues, learn about artifacts, investigate the past, and discover the stories that make our community unique.
The current Junior Edition series is presented in collaboration with The Imaginarium of South Texas and features three Museum Crew missions:
• Republic of the Rio Grande Museum (1005 Zaragoza Street) – Become a Junior Curator by exploring exhibits and learning about the artifacts that help tell the story of Laredo's past.
• Border Heritage Museum (810 Zaragoza Street) – Become a Junior Archaeologist while investigating the Ancient Landscapes of South Texas: Hiding in Plain Sight exhibit and learning about the region's prehistoric past.
• Imaginarium of South Texas (5300 San Dario Avenue, Suite 220) – Become a Fossil Finder and discover the fascinating world of fossils, dinosaurs, and extinction through hands-on activities.
Children who complete missions can collect rewards, earn stamps on their Museum Crew card, and work toward becoming an official Museum Crew Member.
Through Noche de Museos: Junior Edition, families are encouraged to learn, explore, and create memories together while discovering the history, science, and stories of our region.
